HAMMOND, LA - St. Helena College and Career Academy is proud to celebrate the outstanding achievement of one of its learners, Malakhi Girior, who earned 1st Place in the MLK Day Essay Contest - Middle School Division, sponsored by the Sons of Promise and Daughters of Destiny Mentorship Organization at Southeastern University.
Malakhi’s essay, which eloquently reflected on the enduring legacy and values of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., stood out among submissions from learners across the region. His powerful words highlighted the importance of equality, justice, and the continued fight for a better future—values deeply resonant with Dr. King's vision.
The culmination of this achievement was Malakhi’s recognition at the MLK Breakfast Celebration, held on Monday, January 20, 2025, at Southeastern University. Attended by community leaders, educators, and families, the event served as a meaningful reminder of the impact Dr. King’s dream continues to have on today’s youth.
St. Helena College and Career Academy extends its heartfelt congratulations to Malakhi for this exceptional honor. His achievement not only reflects his dedication and talent but also brings immense pride to our school and community.
We also thank the Sons of Promise and Daughters of Destiny Mentorship Organization for providing learners with this platform to reflect on Dr. King’s legacy and showcase their voices.
