August 8, 2024
GREENSBURG-- St. Helena Parish School District received a Healthy Meals Incentives Recognition Award for making improvements to the nutritional quality of their district’s school meals.
Awarded by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Food and Nutrition Service (FNS) in collaboration with Action for Healthy Kids (AFHK), St. Helena Parish School District received the Small or Rural School Food Authority Breakfast Trailblazer Award for switching to reduced sugar cereal and eliminating grain-based desserts from their breakfast menu.
Louisiana Team Nutrition congratulates Tracy Womack, Director of Nutrition and Wellness for St. Helena Parish School District and her staff for earning this award.
School breakfasts play a key role in helping kids get the nutrition they need to learn, grow, and be healthy! A well-nourished child who starts the day with breakfast is more likely to be at school, a better learner, and willing to participate in the classroom.
AFHK is recognizing school districts to spotlight innovative practices, student and community engagement activities, and strategies schools have used to provide meals that are consistent with the 2020-2025 Dietary Guidelines for Americans – all as part of a cooperative agreement to develop and implement the USDA FNS’s Healthy Meals Incentives Initiative.
