St. Helena Parish School District has developed a Safe Re-Entry Plan for its students. The following benchmarks must be met to return to normal operations.
Benchmarks
- Consistent electrical services at all school sites and central office
- Consistent water supply that is safe for consumption
- Eighty percent (80%) of families have consistent electrical services
- All roads are clear for bus transportation services
- Food supply available to accommodate breakfast and lunch for all students
- All schools are clean and free from debris
- Ninety (90%) of teachers and staff are able to return to work
Timeline of Events
The following timeline of events lists our progression toward schools reopening. All dates are tentative and subject to change based on weekly update meetings with the Office of Emergency Preparedness (OEP) and National Guard.
Week of September 6th
- Maintenance and custodial staff will return to work Tuesday, September 7th to sanitize the schools, remove debris, and cut grass.
- An assessment survey will be administered to all teachers and staff to ascertain their ability to return to work. Results will be analyzed by Wednesday, September 8th.
- Insurance adjuster will assess damages at each school between Sept. 8th-10th.
- Regular School Board meeting will be held September 9th
- Meeting update with Office of Emergency Preparedness (OEP) and National Guard will be held to assess progress.
- All wiring and other electrical systems at all school sites will be assessed and repaired.
Week of September 13th
- Cleanup/sanitation continues at each school site.
- Meeting update with Office of Emergency Preparedness (OEP) and National Guard will be held to assess progress.
- Last day for all National Guard and evacuees to occupy gym space will be Friday, September 17th.
Week of September 20th
- All employees will return to work Monday, September 20th for professional development and preparation of their classrooms.
- Cleanup/sanitation of gym and restroom areas will take place the entire week.
- Meeting update with Office of Emergency Preparedness (OEP) and National Guard will be held to assess progress.
Students will return to school Monday, September 27th for normal classroom instruction. All CDC guidelines will be followed regarding COVID-19 mitigation.
