What does learning looking like on our campus? I'm glad you asked! Gym class was more than physical education. Coach Gavin & Coach Royal's learners brought the energy in the Hawk's Nest with Track Connect 4, while Ms. Courtney's Media Arts learners captured the moments sharpening their videography skills behind the lens. #movement #creativity #teamwork all in one space!

Inside the classroom: Our Project Create Media learners had a lesson on public speaking. For their challenging activity they had to find a random object and talk about it for a full minute! Then they had to ask each other a question after each presentation. The kids soon learned that talking for one minute isn't as easy as they thought. This engaging activity not only helped to build confidence but also quick thinking and communication skills. Some of the objects chosen were Vaseline, a camera, key fob and lanyards that represent the schools the learner has offers from, and the funniest was a chair! It's safe to say they really enjoyed the lesson.

Sometimes the most important lessons are unplanned. Our middle school learners participated in a social-emotional learning conversation Friday led by Coach Lewis, focusing on empathy, understanding, and how our words and actions affect others. We are so very proud of the space created for learning, reflection, and growth. #HawkNation #HawkPride

Every unit of blood donated helps increase our High School Donor Graduate Scholarship Fund while supporting those in need. SHCCA has done this before and we’re doing it again with a purpose. Not only will each donation save a life, but also eligible learners will receive credit toward graduation (red cords) and an opportunity to contribute to the scholarship fund.

Our Peer Mediators engaged in training focused on communication, leadership, and conflict resolution, while our Debate Team brainstormed and practiced in preparation for their upcoming competition at SELU on Monday, January 19th.. Learning doesn’t stop in the classroom... it shows up in preparation. We are very proud of their focus.

🏭📘 Social Studies Learning in Action! Learners in Mrs. Holmes’ Social Studies class are building their understanding of industrialization while exploring how capitalism, free markets, and supply and demand shape economies. Through discussion and analysis, learners are connecting historical concepts to how economic systems function in the real world today. Strong thinking, meaningful learning, and great engagement! 🌍📊

✍🏽📘 7th Grade ELA Writing Spotlight! In Ms. Toni’s 7th Grade ELA class, learners completed the final draft of their culminating writing task for the novel Restart. Through thoughtful revision and careful editing, students refined their essays to clearly express their ideas and insights from the text. We’re proud of their focus, perseverance, and commitment to producing high-quality work! 🌟📚

📝📚 Focused Learning in 8th Grade ELA 📚📝 Focused and determined, our 8th grade ELA learners completed timed analytical writing responses, demonstrating strong comprehension and depth of thought while studying The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind. Through close reading and analysis, learners showcased their ability to think critically and express their ideas clearly and effectively. Great work, 8th Grade! 👏✨

🧪✨ Hands-On Learning in Action! ✨🧪 Our 7th and 8th grade Life Science learners explored chemical reactions and matter conservation through exciting bath bomb experiments! Watching the reactions firsthand helped learners make real-world connections and deepen their understanding of scientific concepts. Shoutout to Mr. Woods for creating an engaging, hands-on learning experience that made science come alive! 👏🔬

📐➖ 7th Grade Math in Action! ➕ Today, our 7th grade math learners practiced using number lines to subtract positive and negative integers. Seeing the direction and distance on the number line really helped the math click! 💡📊 Hands-on visuals make a big difference in building understanding and confidence. Way to go, 7th Grade! 👏✨

📘 ELA Lesson Focus: Innovation and Perseverance In this lesson, learners were able to read the text and describe how William creatively used scrap materials to design and build innovations that improved life for himself and his family. Learners also contrasted the descriptions and imagery of William’s inventions with the descriptions and imagery of his rural environment to explain the significance of his achievements.
